The family has taken an old, rundown farm house and remodeled it in such a manner that Bishop Frederick Freking of Salina will confer an award to the couple Sept. 25 at the diocesan convention.Mrs. Doubrava's grandfather, refer Thielen. built the farm home in 1884 Before the Doubravas bought the home a tornado had hit the place and litter was strewn around the yard.Taking new heart, the Doubravas went to work with a will, applying gallons of paint, now fencing, lawn planting, shelterbelt setting and installing of utilities. Fields were terraced and the whole farmstead landscaped.Elevator Fire Poses Problem For Hose HandlersST. JOHN — Firemen had to drag heavy hoses to the top of a 150 - foot - high concrete grain elevator and run water down a conveyor shaft lt;lcg to extinguish fire which had been started in the boot pit, from the boot, grain is distributed to various tanks and bins.Lowell Selfridge, employed at Hahn Elevator, found the fire while he was at the top of theelevator. Karen Moore, failed to negotiate a right turn on West First and the vehicle slammed through a fence and came to rest against the corner of a house.Riding with the girl was a com-1 panion, Marlene Wieman, 19. Both girls were treated for minor injuries at St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital. A third occupant in the car, Vicki Hall, 15, was uninjur-, od.The car sustained damages a*j mounting to $400 while the house and fence damage amounted to $200.The house is owned by Mrs. Phyllis Mische, state hospital nurse.LARNED — There are 44 more students in senior high this year than was the case in 1961. Tabulation showed 310 as compared to 266 for 1961.School administrators see an even larger peak for the 1962-63 year when the current ninth grade class of 120 moves into the senior high bracket.
