CARBONDALE, ILL., Sept. 17— About 2,000 witnessed the auto races at the Dillinger motor speedway north of Carbondale Sunday afternoon. The track being locat-JU * ed opposite the air port made' it possible for the spectators to see both the air port dedication andev’ the races.Nftie cars competed in the fivemile, ten mile and twenty mile[7 races, for the $1,000 in prizes.73 The time in all three events wasnee sl°w on account of the dustyon trafck-orn-1 The only accident of the day [ at occurred in the 20 mile race 5:30 when Doc Jones of Zeigler, driv-P. ing the R. S. B. special, owned by offi- C. J. Winters of Carbondale, over-me- turned on the back curve, crushing the driver beneath. Jones was ten rushed to Holden hospital, where iere it was stated Monday morning that his condition was not ser-hag ious. He sustained a broken rib, 4Q cuts and bruises.this The wreck occurred when at Jones attempted to pass another Car- car in the blinding dust and lostwill control.
