Music and the Drama.—The arrival amongst us of Herr August Wilhelmj, the great violinist, has been, says a Sydney source, the musical event of the month. He has been playing nightly since July 11, at the Masonic Hall, and his wonderful performances have created quite a furore among musical people here. With him comes Mr. Max Vogrich, a young Hungarian pianist of great promise ; Miss Kate Thayer, a brilliant soprano singer ; and Miss Marie Conron, who possesses a good mezzo-soprano voice. On the night of his first concert Wilhelmj was serenaded by the German Glee Club. At the Theatre Koyal “ Tambour Major ” is still running; and at the Gaiety “ Diplomacy ” holds the stage yet. Mr. J. L. Hall is starring at the Opera House; and Mr. J. B. Steele is doing sensation at the Queen's Theatre.
