By Frederick !. DouglassTamara Dobson, member of a prominent Balti-m o r e family, is really doing big things in her movie role as Cleopatra Jones, a globe trotting agent for the U.S. government. Her latest flick is “Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold.” wherein she is combatting international drug dealers just as she * did in her first movie, “Cleopatra Jones.” The plot of the movie is very simple. Two of Cleo’s coworkers and close .friends have been captured bv the nefarious and dykish Dragon Lady, head of theworld's major heroin ring, played bv Stella Stevens.Cleo heads for the mysterious Orient to rescue her friends and confront the Dragon Lady in herBob McGrath, best known as Bob on ‘‘Sesame Street” is at Painter Mill Music Fair, September 13.For The Recordden of inequity, the Casinoof Gold, a house of iP-e-pute and gambling where all vices are caiereo to and all of the Ten Commandments are violated everyday in every way.Naturally, Cleo saves her friends from the clutches of death and puts the Dragon Lady out-of-busl* ness by the end of the movie. While the plot of the movie is very simple and holds no surprises to the moviegoer, it is worth seeing because Tamara does a real job in portraying Cleopatra Jones.Standing more than six feet tall, she comes across believably in the karate scenes in which she destroys dozens.of men at a time. Yet she’s very feminine and attractive, with a pretty face and a perfect frame upon which to drape the boss fashions designed especially for her — a dif-f er e n t outfit for every scene in the movie.More importantly, the movie is worth seeing because Tamara Dobson portrays a very positive role, something that very few women get to do in current movies. It is really refreshing to see a woman in a role in which she does not have to disrobe and hop from bed to bed. Most movies being made these days feature women in the roles ofprostitutes, junkies, adult-resses. criminals and other degrading characters. Not so with Tamara Dobson who plays Cleo. a crime fighter who is determined to wipe out the community's worst enemy, thedrug dealer. We need to have morepositive images of black people in the movies because people tend to believe what they see on the screen and try to imitate characters that they see inTamara Dobsonthe movies.Remember the Impact SuperflyM had on the community it brought back straightened hair for men and had everybody wearing coke spoons around their necks, not to mention putting gapgster wall tires and lanterns on their cars. We esnochMy need to have women por-iw'ixmA mine thnl P!in hp' ■*; lived-up-to rather than In roles that represent the ft dreSs of society.Fls “Cleopatra Jones and theCasino of Gold” is a movie worth seeing. While the plot is very basic, the movie is fast paced, well-photographed and has plenty of action. Tamara Dobson’s acting indicates that she is capable of handling more complex roles. For people who are into clothing, the outfits she wears in the movie are truly sensational. People who are into karate will also be satisfied. It’s a violent and brutal movie in which a lot of people meet their maker after being Kung Fu’d. Plus, it’s one. of those1 kind of movies that bring .lt;out audienceparticipation—at the Hippodrome there were more actors in the audience than on screen. Go see “Cleopatra and the Casino of Gold.” You will enjoy yourself immensely.WilbyConspiSILENT STRANGERNow Atjf-MAYFAIR TWO*•-•*♦11 DIN HOWARD IT Jt
