Saying thanks to ‘God’s Angels’Gail FreemanI can't stand the thought ot any group of people being slcrwgvped like one bud apple does spoil the barrel alter all. As we all know, this simply isn’t true.Back in the 70s. though, several movies were released that gave people who ride motorcycles a bad name just because they rode a bike. What many don’t take into consideration is that for every bad person that rides a motorcycle you can usually find two that nde them who are good, honest, hard working poo pie When I lived in Louisville I would even see some of the CKO’s of companies there who put on their fancy three piece suit and rode a bike to work everyX t is more people these days that ride bikes are good than Ixad The days of “Hell's An gel Y and bad guy’ association are fading quickly and l‘m glad You sec* articles occasionally about the chanty or poker runs for chanty that they do. but tluit is just a drop in the bucket lo the many, many things they actually do to help peopleOn Aug. Ml. some of the local bikers held a poker run to help my family try to recoup some of the loses that we've had from hospital stays for both my husband and daughter as well as the many trips to Lexington that I’ve had to make and medications that aren't covered on insur a nee and a number of different things that drain on a family’s resources until there are relatively little resources left to drainAs a result of string of bad luck, we'd had we were nearly two months behind on everything and still hud medicines to pay for and surgery for my daughter to be done this past week.It may not have been one of the big ger rums that they have had But I can tell you without doubt that those involved put their heart and soul into what they were doing. My husband rode a motorcycle all his fife and most of these people knew him and many had rode with him b^ck when his health would allowHe wanted to at least ride the support truck this time (or one last run but his illness took another downswing and left him unable to do even that. I couldn't begin to name all the other charities and private donation runs that they participate in They are greatSo the next time you see someone coming down the road wearing their leather and riding that motorcycle don't let that image of Hell's Angels cross your mind. Let the image of a wonderful group of people who take their hobby, something they love, and turn it into a way of giving back a gift of love in returnAs for my family, our lives were blessed a little more just by the kindness vou showed and no matter what I said in this article it would never be enough So I II just keep it simple.
