Kern who 1ms resigned after con-Jucting the band for 35 years.For the first time in the band's history, it also has officers, elected Tuesday night with Stcmm.Julius Longshore was named president .and other new officers follow; vice president. Charles Dctmer; secretary and business manager, Louis Roberts, and treaurer, Carl Schubach.Librarians will be William Erwin, Richard Denncr and Harold Lutz, while a committee on talent will be composed of Walter Krum-ich. chairman; Ethvard Church, Walter Jacobs and Azel Osborne.Mr. Stem in, who is 68 years old, has been city auditor of Zanesville for 26 years. He started his music career as a clarinet player with John Bauer's famous old band.He later was a member of the Seventh Regiment band and succeeded Bruce Tomlinson as its director. When that band was called into active service at the start of World War I he was commissioned a lieutenant and remained itsleader during the war, first at Montgomery, Aubama, and later at Camp Grant in Rockford. 111., where its name was changed to the 161st depot band.Mr. Stemm is a versatile musician who plays the clarinet, saxophone, bassoon and drums.The band practices every Tuesday night in the Grotto Hall and sometimes makes appearances under the name of the Grot*o band.
