We go back with Don to his days with Sammy Kaye and a rave review when he fronted the band at the NYC Strand one engagement. We were together at Coral Records. That was a while ago. Time has only enhanced Mr. Cornell’s many abilities .... The hilarious Novelites opened earlier in the weekwhen one of the Kim Sisters went into the hospital. We were happy to hear from Sue that Aija is doing well .... The Leland Four complete the very strong September lineup that Rocky (Slim) Sennes has assembled at the Stardust .... Two more “Tickle Your Fancy” credits: The staging and choreography by Jerry Norman; and, the superlative musical arrangements and playing of Otto Ortwein and his men. Their show-backing is perfect; always there without ever obtruding. This is such an essential, especially for a revue.Congratulations to the Las Vegas Ambassadors on their deserved tribute which Sen. Howard Cannon read into the Congressional Record. Norman Kaye has agreed on behalf of the \mbassadors and led Vesely is already on record so it looks like one of our fall projects will be a joint concert featuring the Ambassadors and the Las Vegas Youth Band. We’re very enthused .... Meanwhile, catch the LVYB next Tuesday (16th) night at halftime when our Las \ egas football Cowboys play Sacramento. . . . Norm Kaye is also enthused (with good reason) about C. C. Jones’ lirst record date for the Star-day-King people. S K proxy, Hal Neely, flew to LA from NYC with Frank Clark to personally supervise the sessions. Norm asked us ifwe remember the DeLuxe label, a Marday King subsid. Norm, there is very little in the record business that is “before our time”. Much luck.Fay McKay with the Landmark’s “Tower Sweets Revue” and singer-guitarist Ray Malus (same place) are two of the brightest new talents in town. While at the Landmark, be sure to catch the Judge’s Nephews in the Nighthawk Lounge .... After 13.000 miles in three months with camper and dog, promo gal Laurie MacTavish is back in town and helping Channel 5 promote its new image. Things are sure happening since A1 Cohen became GM at KLTC. We, for one, welcome the competition. This afternoon, Andrik, the Dutch lad doing so well with Jack Carter in the Riviera Starlite Lounge, does a book report on “Scoremanship” for the benefit of Caesars’ Mongo Santamariaand this reporter on our Ch. 13 show.Caesars’ Circus Maximus captain Aldo Casanova's Great Danehad a litter of 12 pups, all male and all black. Good See vou Tuesday.Colleague Paul Price certainly called the unfortunate turn Friday when he asked that the street lights be put into use on Paradise Road between Sahara and DI Road. The first of Paul’s predicted 13 pedestrianswas killed on Paradise Road that evening. The victim, Mitchell Ayres, had just finished conducting the Ray Sinatra orchestra for Connie Stevens’ first show of the evening at the Landmark. He and a friend were crossing Paradise en route to the International when it happened. The driver of the car was not cited. The twosome wasnot in a crosswalk area. We broke the bad news on our 1:30 a.m.urday TV show. Following the show, we ran into one of our countycommissioners at the Quorum Club. We told him what had happened. His comment: “Don’t blame us.
