25 years agoThe large house on Va. 7 where Mrs. O.G. Martin used to feed her family in the 1940s is now a bigger building where her granddaughter, Barbara Ganse. feeds the community in the 1980s — the 220 Seafood RestaurantIn 1981, Barbara and Robert Ganse decided to open a franchise of the seafood restaurant chain, named for its first restaurant on Route 220 in North Carolina. To modify the house the side yard became the kitchen, the front yard was made into a parking lot, and one porch became a dining area and the other an entryway. Before the Ganses opened 220 Seafood Restaurant, she was a secretary and he was a heating and cooling systems specialist for Raub Supply Co. and they knew nothing about the restaurant business. Their education came quickly after they opened the business. The seafood restaurant, which serves both steamed and fried seafood, is in Frederick County, just beyond the Winchester line.Aug. 27, 1986
