A DECIDED SUCCESSTHE LABOR DAY CELEBRATION..Drew ft Larger Crowd Than Wai Expected. Program of Speaking und Athletic Sporw Carried Oot In Detail.No Accidents or Arrest*.Monday was a gala day in Cayuga, the occasion being our first labor day celebration. A6i^e from the fog of dust the day wn* an ideal one for u day of rest nod recreation, and by nine o’clock the sLreets were thronged with yisitors from the country and the surrounding towns. It is estimated that from 3.000 to 5,000 people were in attendance. Everybody was in good humor and behaved well, not one arrest living made during the entire day. The program was carried out as advertised and met the hearty approval of the people. The event was a decided success which speaks well for the labor unions of Cayuga.The day's events started off at 10 o’clock aud with a grand parade, headed by the celebrated Cayuga Marine band, in which the labor unions aud many of the business menv took a prominent pari, the unions and the business men each representing their business with floats. Some of the floats were on the comical order while others were neat and artisticallygotten up.A pleasant und entertaining feature of the program was I lie athletic events which consisted of foot races, hurdle race, bicycle race, etc. Following is ft list of the eveuts und the prize winners in the various contests:Boys'foot race—Aiviu Connor, Eugene, first; Willard New man, Uuyugu, second; Harry Newman, * Cayuga, third.100 yard dusk—0. II. llemJersou, ^Georgetown, second.1 The contestants in the fifty-yard /footrace for old men nere Morion Mitchell of Silvenvood and Jacob Bush jtnd Lee Cougleton of this place, Mitchell winning by a lead of twenty-five feet. The ages of the runners being as follows: •Mitchell, 00; Bush. 01; Cougleton, 07.The oration of the day was delivered at the park »». 2:30o'clock by Hun. G. W. Lackey of Dugger, Ind., who held the closest attention of lifs large and enthusiastic audience. He dwelled principally ou the condition of the laboring men of today and urged them to work earnestly and faithfully fori the furtherance of their unions.
