Alfred Carlson who lives near Roberts was struck by lightning last Thursday night about 12:30 o’clock. Fire ensued and the barn and all the contents were burned, save Mr. Carlson’s fine stallion which he succeeded in getting ou t. Two of Mr. Carlson’s best horses, valued at #450,were under a strawshed about 60 rods distant from the barn and they too were killed, whether by the same or by another bolt is not known. The loss of the horses Mr. Carlson regrets more than all the other propertydestroyed. There were burned with the barn about 12 tons of hay, 200 bushels of corn, carriage, wind mill, cart, all his harness but one set, and some farm implements. Mr. Carlson has two other barns about 50 feet away and they were set on fire by the heat from the barn which was struck by lightning, and all three barns were burning at once. It was only by heroic effort that the other barns were saved, and as it was one side of the granary of one of the barns was badlydamacrpd.
