George Parizek Cries Sales For 19 YearsGeorge E. Parizek, Oxford’s widely known auctioneer, was born west of North Liberty, the son of Mr. and Mrs, John Parizek, who now live in Iowq City. George graduated from Iowa City high school.Mr. Parizek says he always wanted to be an auctioneer, and started his career of crying sales in 1928 without any special training. Later he took private tutoring under two auctioneers.He estimates he has cried between three and four thousand sales. He believes his largest real estate sale amounted to $100,400 and his largest closing out sale ,$56,000. He has a record of having postponed only three sales in his life, and these due to bad weather conditions. •Between the first of October, 1946 and the 13th of March, this year, he had only nine days on which he had no sales. In four weeks last fall he sold in seven counties. He is now booked with sales for every day through Sept. 14, and already has sales booked for December.Mr. Parizek has sold in the Sioux City Horse and Mule Market, the St 'Paul Horse and Mule Market, Janesville Wisconsin Dairy and Horse Sale, and sales barns in Charles City, Clinton, Eddyville, Grinnell, Cedar Rapids, and at present is selling at the Oxford and Iowa City sales barns.. Mrs. Parizek is the former Miss Marcella Rinda, from Oasis. They have two children, Ronald, 10 and Jonette, 6, both in the Oxford schools.Manley Springmire Manager of Locker PlantManley Springmire, manager of Gay's Lockers, was born in Clear Creek township, the son of Joseph and Mayme Springmire. His mother still lives in Tiffin.Mr. Springmire attended the rural schools in Clear Creek township, andalso attended Oxford high school.His first job was on a farm owned by his untie, Art Chipman, in Clear Creek township. He has worked on many construction and highway jobs in this area, and was employed by the Standard Oil company for nine years. He became manager of the Gay Lockers in Oxford four years ago. He has been a member of the city council for two years.Mrs. Springmire is the former Miss Geneva Potter, daughter of HomerPotter, and the late Mrs. Ann Potter,who died several years ago. TheSpringmiyes have two daughters, Mrs. George Haman, jr., and Mrs. Richard Yenter.The Gay Locker plant was constructed in Oxford in 1941, where they maintain 250 lockers and process all types of meat for freezing.■ - ■ ■■ ■■ »E. L. Spratt Druggist 37 YearsE. L. Spratt is nearing the completion of 43 years in the drug business, and most of it has been in Oxford.Mr. Spratt was granted his lifcense to practice pharmacy on Oct. 4, 1904. A year later he went to Wajjello, but came back to Oxford late in: 1905; he then spent six years in Williamsburg.July 15, 1912 he purchased the Oxford drug store business from Dr. E. A. Doty, and has been here ever since. Mr. Spratt claims the distinction of having a business that has occupied the same building for a longer period of time than any other business at the present time in Oxford.Mr. Spratt was born near Holbrook, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Spratt. He married the former Miss Julie Tiernan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Tiernan of Parnell.
