CHINESE BOYS MAKEHIT ASBast met south last night when the Chinese boys'of the Chung Mel home in this city presented a negro minstrel show at the . Hawthorne school. The program was prepared under the direction of Dr. Charles H, Shepherd, superintendent of the school, and because of its success it is to be given in the bay region to aid in the building fund campaign which is being carried on by the school.The performance last night was abenefit for the Hawthorne school and the proceeds will be used to purchase an electric mimeograph for the school. On Friday and Saturday I night the program is to be given in San Francisco at the Chinese Native; Sons hall on Stockton street and these performances will start the building fund campaign.Twenty-four Chinese boys, ranging in age from the little fellows in itindergarten to, boys entering their 'teens gave the minstrel show and entered into the spirit of the negro comedy with unusual skill. The end men, George Chow and Paul Leung, were very successful in their presentation of the jokes • before the large company assembled in the . I school. The tymphbny orchestra , and the Chung VMet charmony” kings aided in the ^entertainment. There were special numbers by George Hall, Charles Mar, Adam Wu. C. Y. Hui, Superintendent C? R. Shepherd, George Chow and Harry Fong.Saturday the Berkeley Mobilized Women will hold their quarterly newspaper and magazine drive, and they are asking t$iat all citizens whc wi^h to help them in their Americanization work’ assist them in this way by donating their old newspapers anc magazines.If convenient, it will greatly faclli tate the work of collection if thi papers and magazines are tied ii
