Nineteen pioneers of the town and district were presented with Centennial buffalo pins and a free supper.following the parade. Unfor-i rain Saturday evening, tunately, the street dance hadl Sunday, an Inter-faith Service to be cancelled because of the | was held at Pike’s Peak, follow-A perfect parachute jump was made at approximately 8 p.m., landing on the playground at Pike’s Peak.Saturday morning, a pioneer breakfast was held in the school auditorium. Later, races were held at the school grounds.A highly successful parade was held at 1 p.m. with many organizations participating. The parade led off with the RCMP followed by the Stony Mountain Legion. Stony Mountain Curling Club float depicted a replica of what their new rink will look like.Music for the parade was supplied by the Transcona Junior Pipe Band. Manitoba Telephone float followed the band. A truck carried two ladies churning butter with an old chum.ed by a concert by the Salvation Army Band.A barbecue concluded the centennial celebrations.A big bouquet to the members of the community for their whole - hearted support which contributed to the success of the celebrations.Turkey ThievesApprehendedThe accident scene during the past three weeks has been fairly quiet, however RCMP report that, a number of thefts have occurred.„ __ . . „ , August 23rd, fourteen turkeysLong time members of Stony Mountain Curling Club 1 were stolen from the premisessit proudly on their float which took part in the Stony Mountain Centennial parade held last Saturday. The float was a replica of what their new curling rink will look like when completed.A group called the (was it hyp-ughsocrites?) provided many laughs for those lining the parade route. Stony Mountain Brownies paraded along with many decorated bicycles and tricycles and other floats.Judges for the best floats and bicycles were Mrs. Kathy Mol-lard, Mr. Shannon, Dudley Patterson and John Pierce,First prize in. the floats went to an original grocery store, by Ernie. Stef fan. Second went to the Linklater family float, while third prize went to the Buffalo Hunters, sponsored by the Legion Ladles’ Auxiliary.:Winners of the decorated bicycles were— first, Debbie Rempie; second Dennis Ruth, Tricycle prizes went to Valerie Lawrie, first and second was a tie between Robin Magas and Reg. Harvey.of William Chrismas, Balmoral. Two Stonewall district men have been arrested and charged with the thefts. They will appear in magistrate’s court in Stonewall on September 14th.Sometime between Wednesday, July 22nd and Thursday morning, July 23rd, thieves en tered the premises of the Stony Mountain Centennial Pool and the Stony Mountain Legion They made4 off with chips, can dies and other miscellaneous confections from the Pool and two cases of beer from the Le gion, Two adults and one ju vonile were arrested and eharg ed with break, enter and theft They appeared in magistrate’s court in Stonewall August 10thbut with no1 1* counsel. The* were remanded until Septem her 14th,Bingo, beer gardens and a variety of other booths were held in the school auditoriumMrs. Charles Ellison and Mr. Howard Franklin were two of Stony Mountain’s eldest pioneers who took part in the Centennial celebrations. They, along with other pioneers, were honor-, ed Friday evening and presented pioneer pins.The Manitoba Hydro Dorsey plant at Rosser was broken in to sometime between Augusl 1st and 17th. Approximately 2000 pounds of copper was stol en. Stonewall Rural Detachment of the RCMP are investigating.
