Bob and Bickford, apair of heavyweights who know how to handle their fists, squared off at each other with closed fists several times so that the scene could be shot to the best advantage. It wasn't easy work, or fun either. in fact, the fisticuffing the pair staged was far better than most fight arenas have to offer. And on one occasion, Mr. Bickford, who is something of a powerful fellow, let loose a haymaker which caught Mr. Burns right smack on the side of his head, a little above the ear.Down went Fighter Burns, with Fighter Bickford pouncing on him. His gentle intent was to gouge out his opponent’s eyes.At this second, an extra playerstanding with the group of townspeople watching the fight, broke through the crowd, raced to the fighters and began hitting Mr Bickford. His action ruined the scene. But it proved conclusively to Director Al Santell that thefight wag realistically real.Incidentally, Bob Burns went through the entire fight sceneagain, still groggy from the blow on his head. He admitted he suffered a severe headache for daysafterward. Bickford was battered and bruised too.In addition to Bickford, the sup poriing cast of “Our Leading Citizen” includes Susan Hayward, Joseph Allen, jr., Elizabeth Patter-son and Gene Lockhart.SWIMS “LIKE FISH”Ann Rutherford literally swims like a fish- she can swim under water, but not on top of the water.P* ' TDangerA Blt;\ K: None hut the thrill-charged genius of Dumas couldpenetrate the Iron Mask lt;► bring you the Intrigue , . . the. . . the Houutnce it symbolizes.
