(A.I . rnotoS.)'Hobo' ('at Rides Trucks Of Fast BurlingtonLa Crosse had an unique visitor recently—a hobo maltose cat which traveled on a passenger train—so relates P.H. Mcise. general foreman of the Burlington railroad shops at North La Crosse.The grey cat boarded the rear truck of the rear car of the Mississippi River View— train No. 45—crack passenger train of the Burlington, at the Chicago Union Station depot. Efforts of trainmen to oust the cat from the train at various stop-offs between Chicago and Minneapolis failed. When the cat passed through La Crosse. Meise and others of the localdepartment, succeeded in getting the cat off the car—but when the passenger train started north again, the cat was firmly perched on the rear truck, ready to ward off any blows.The “hobo” cat got off the Mississippi River View at the Minneapolis coach yards at 11 p. m.—and was back on the southbound edition of the Mississippi River View'—train No. 52—at 8:10 the following morning ready to “burn” its way southward again.Austin Riley, a La Crose railroader, finally banished the cat from the train at Hager— and it has not been seen since.
