MANY TAKE PART IN PROGRAM OF SPORT CONTESTSA tug-of-war between two teams ofeleven “huskies” each opened the contest program at the Labor Day celebration at McNaughton park yesterday afternoon. After several minutes of desperate battling, the squad composed of Antonio Bartow, G. C. McLaughlin, Boyd Cox, Roy Johnson, N. A. Potter, John Garlosso, George Fahl,C. L. Minnis, Mickey Bebo, H. W. Culp and Louis Kehres captured the $5 cash prize.Claude Deckard won the boys* running race finishing just ahead of Roy Morrow. The prizes were $2 and $1 in cash.The girls* running contest went to Dorothy Forker, Rose Reiner being given second prize; $2 and $1 were the awards.Mrs. Anna Carol took first place in the lean ladies* race, thereby increasing her stock of worldly goods to the extent of $2. Mrs. Louis Johnson won $1 by reaching the line in second position.A slight mishap marred the fat ladies* contest. A lady who gave her name as Mrs. George Karns lost her footing when near the finish and plunged to the ground. The event was won by Mrs. William Brundage. Mrs. J. J. Edsall was close behind. Here, too, the prizes were $2 and $1, respectively.The lean men’s running contest was annexed by Roy Johnson, who received $2. W. H. Brundage won second place, taking the $1 prize.H. O. Ward was the swiftest man in the fat men’s race, winning the first award of $2; and C. L. Minnis was second. Minnis received $1 in cash.The greased pole climb was called of because no pole was available. Likewise, the absence of pies necessitated the cancellation of the pie-eating events. '
