WASHINGTON—School days are new days for all the students in Washington.The Washington Elementary School is now housed in a new modem facility which will bring all the elementary and kindergarten students in Washington under one roof for thefirst time.The school was officially opened with a flag-raising ceremony Tuesday morning at the school. All 283 students gathered around the flag pole and sang the*‘Star Spangled Banner” and pledged their allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.'Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Leo Tobler, sixth grade teacher, gave a short talk on the history and heritage of the United States as a commemoration of the Bicen-tenniaLThe students then resumed their class work, which began Monday morning along with the other schools throughout Washington County.The new school has classrooms for kindergarten through sixth grade, bringing the students all under the same roof. In pervious years kindergarten students and fifth- and sixth-grade students were transported to St. George while the others stayed at the old Washington School.The new facility has a multi-purpose room and a learning resources center along with the offices and classrooms. Ferdinand A. Neilson, principal, said the school is not complete. Future students may look forward to seeing two wings built onto the school, one on the north and the other on the south. The master plan also calls for an auditorium to be built on the west side of the existing edifice.Other buildings under construction in the Washington County School District are the new Dixie Junior High Schoolin St. George, the Springdale Elementary School. The junior high is near completion and should be complete sometimes this fall. When it is complete, the school will move immediately to the new facility and leave the Woodward Junior High School for the use of the elementary schools inSt. George.Springdale Elementary will also be completed this fall.
