YWCA buildingsold to churchThe Salina YWCA and the Benjamin Temple Church of God in Chr ist will occupy new “homes” this fall.During the last week in September, the YW expects to move to its new building at 651 E. Prescott Road, to make room for the church congregation which has bought the present YWCA property at 122 S. 8th, for $15,000.The church will take possession Oct. 1.Mrs. Robert McAdams, YW executive director, said the proceeds from the sale will help the YWCA in finishing its structure which will cost approximately $212,000.Benjamin Temple’s former property, located at 505 E. North, was sold about 2 years ago for Urban Renewal, said the Rev. B. G. Loyd, minister.“We then rented the property until earlier this summer,” he said.Since that time, the congregation has been holding services at the Woodard Temple Church of God in Christ, 1109 N. Santa Pe.Mr. Loyd says the outside of the church’s new facilities will have to be painted and some inside remodeling done.-The 8th street property was bequeathed to the YWCA in 1931 by Mrs. Emma Aldrich. However, the organization did not occupy it until 1937.When the church congregation moves to its new “home”, it will be located between Christ Episcopal Cathedral and the First Assembly of God.Church,Situated in the next block north are Sacred Heart Cathedral and the First United Methodist Church on opposite sides of the street. Further south are the First Presbyterian Church and the First Church of Christ Scientist, across the street from each other at 8th and Mulberry.South 7th street also has its share of churches including the St. John’s and Immanuel Lutheran and First Christian.
