City lifts concert ban; War visits ColiseumThe self-imposed rock music bin Houston has had for the last two months has now been lifted -and lifted in a big way.Thursday night the Sam Houston Coliseum will fill with the sounds of Eric Burdon (of Animals fame) and his new group War. Their recording of the summer, “Spill the Wine,’* was on the “Top 10“ on popular AM stations around the Houston area.This will be an Ames Production in cooperation with Of Our Own Of Our Own is a group of persons interested in making the rock music scene in Houston a better atmosphere They are working for better concerts and a decrease in the ticket prices for the events.A third of the money madefrom the Eric Burdon/War concert will go into a fund to provide for a place “of our own” for Houston music listeners.This concert will also be a new low in ticket prices for any Houston concert in recent years.The Grand Funk Railroad will stop off in the Coliseum Saturday courtesy of Concerts West. This mus’.*al trio has had much succe» with their new album “Closer To Home ”Sonic Productions will present the Quicksilver Messenger Service at the Continental Showcase Sunday. Their big hit of last year, “Who Do You Love?” is one of the better oldie-goldies flowing around.
