nister.MBEK 1, 1910Di-Beckiey Folk Attend Maben DanceOne of the most enjoyable events in which the society folk of Beckiey have have participated was the dance given by the officials of the W. M. Ritter Lumber Company, at Maben, on last Thursday evening. Those who went from Beckiey left here on Thursday afternoon, going By hack to Raleigh, from which town they were taken on a special train to Pemberton over the Raleigh Southwestern Railway, where they were transferred to a special train over the Virginian branch line down the Winding Gulf, arriving at Maben in time to partake of the sumptuous supper which had been prepared for the expected visitors by the officials at that point. The journey down the Gulf was one of the interesting features of the trip, there being not one thing to occur to mar the enjoyment thereof. A greater number of the party had never been over this route, and the scenery of the rugged country through the train passes was much enjoyed. On reaching Maben the party was met by Dr. E. O. Thornhill, Mr. Pad dock, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Osborne and Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Osborne, who took them^in charge, and spared no pains to see that the best of entertainment was provided. The young men of the party from Beckiey speak very complimentary of the manner in which Dr. Thornhill, who by the way, is a bachelor, provided supper for them. They did not appear to understand exactly how so many delicacies could be gotten together in such an appetizing form with out at least the advice of the gentler sex. .After supper, the entire party repaired to the large dancing pavilion of the company at that point, where the light fantastic was tripped until the early hours of Friday. A light luncheon was served at midnight. Music for the occasion was furnished by the Keystone orchestra. The return trip was made over the same route as that in going, and was without incident, save a drenching rain which seemed to begin to fall the hardest just as the party boarded the flat car at Pemberton. All in all, there was never a more pleased dancing party than that which arrived in Beckiey on Friday morning, even if they were temporarily inconvenienced on account of the drenching given them. Those who participated in the dance were: Misses McLaine, Osborne, Bal-cctotortoJfavSai1vs.1th€lard and McLaine, of Maben, Smith, Roberta Caldwell, Mary ^Caldwell, Lightner, Jordan, Baker, George, War-riner, Anderson and Higgins, of Beckiey, and Helen Vance, of Erie, Pa., Messrs.
