On the surface, that doesn’t sound too good.But, as United Way officials reported Thursday, the drive is just about to take a big step forward with the inclusion of the pledges from New Departure Hyatt where it is estimated employees will eive almost $90,000 alone withthe United Way is its impact on our county. The vast majority of the funds stay here to help our neighbors, our families.For the past, several years, this newspaper has published stories about people who have been helped by one or more of these agencies. This plant could be located in Erie County if a site could be foundON THEINSIDE...By MARIE MARTILOTTAOne would think the controversy involving the separation of sanitary and storm sewers in the Buchanan Street area of Sandusky is nearing an end.For several months city commissioners have been putting off a decision on the project, how its costs should be divided between the city and property owners and what specifically should be done.They have been waiting for the completion of a report on the matter from consulting engineers, Jones and HenryEngineers, Limiteci.In a way, commissioners wanted the consultants to make a decision for them,$1,000. For the Buchanan Street area project commissioners are talking of a near $1 million expenditure.The matter is complicated further by Commissioner Harold G. Schaeffer because he lives and owns property in-the effected area.His classic comment Monday,— “The area isn't worth that much ($3 million) — should go down in the annals of Sandusky history.It's unfortunate that he doesn't attack other issues with the gusto he has used in this one.
