Symphony SchedulesStudent AuditionsSunday is the deadline for en s tries in the Amarillo Symphony] National Artist and Student! Soloist Auditions, offering more than $1,000 in cash awards and appearances with the orchestra during its 1971-72 season.A number of entries already have arrived from Arizona, Oklahoma, and Kansas, as well as from the area, said Mary Elizabeth Wilson, competition coordinator. She anticipates that, as in previous years, mostj of the entries will arrive at the last minute.The competition last year had 100 entries — some from as far away as New York and California, she said.• • •The auditions are scheduledNov. 21 and 22 on the Amarillo College campus.This year’s Artist Auditions! are limited to vocalists. Although there is no age limit,! it is believed that only thosej of advanced proficiency will be; interested. Miss Wilson said.The prize is a guest appearance on the orchestra’s j 1971 72 subscription sea'ion. for; which the performer will j receive the $1,000 Ray C. Johnson Jr. Vocal Award.The required repertoire in-jeludes two operatic arias, one] selection from German Lieder.j a French art song and a con-j temporary English or American'song. |The Student Soloist Auditions;will have categories in piano.voice, violin, viola, cello.;woodwinds and brass, in limitedage classifications. s• • • 'The contestant rated highest in his division will be awarded a guest appearance on a specialconcert with the Amarillo ^ Symphony, for which he will;, receive the Blackburn Award ofj a $25 gift certificate.Entry fee is $15 in the artist division and $10 in the student; division.
