HalloweenBy Nathan PalgaC^ll and Post RepoftafIn the past ten years we have been festively frightened by Michael Myers in Halloween, superstitiously slaughtered by Jason Voorhes in Friday the 13th and dreamily distorted by Freddy Krueger in the Eltn Street films. Now, Michael Myers, the man, the legend, is back in the fourth installment of ‘Halloween’. Let’s rip this film to shreds, shall we? Or at least the first half of it.‘Halloween II’ left Myers burned (to death, so we thought) in an attempt to kill his sister Nor-rie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). Part III didn't have anything to do with it, so we won’t discuss it.It’s now 10 years later and we find out that Myers has been institutionalized all this time. When the audience gets its first glimpse of him, his face is swathed in bandages. Correct me if I’m wrong, but if it takes ten years for burns to heal, then what is the point in wanting to live? Why is his face bandaged? We don’t know. What has he been doing in the institution all this time? We don’t know that either.Donald Pleasance reprises his role as psychiatrist Sam Loomis who endures so much physical abuse throughout this film, he may be better off dead.Anyway, the story focuses around Jamie, daughter of the now deceased Norrie Strode, How did she die? We don’t know. Jamie is having bad dreams about Myers, someone she has never known, but she is known by Myers and he slashes the town red in an attempt to find and kill her.The most suspenseful scenes in the film take place in the second half. The entire town is experiencing a power outage, meaning the streets should be dark. Conveniently, the moon is unusually bright. So bright that there is noThe Movie Reviewplace to hide.Save for her inability to cry on cue, Jamie gives a believable performance as a terrified little girlwho must be brave in order tosurvive.The only turnoff in the film was a negative remark about Cleveland which the audience reacted to immediately. At the end of thefilm, one question still remains: IsMichael Myers really dead? We don’t know, but I’m sure we will find out in the next installmentand don’t be surprised if the killing spree becomes a “teameffort”.
