by Colleen ClarkI have been accused, by some of my fellow journalists, of being a seasonal person (whatever that means). It may have something to do with the fact that some of my columns have been about weather. But I am one of ;those persons who believes seasons have'a real influence on our everyday lives.Just how many people do you know look out the window every morning to see what the weather is like? And how many of those don’t trust the weather to be the same as what they see at 7 or 8 or 9 a.m.? (This may haVe to do with the belief in the regional cliche, “If you don’t like the weather just wait a minute and it will change.) Those people call the weather forecast number to get a more accurate prediction for the day. The more simple minded call the old reliable 844-1111.it occurred to me the other day.that Texas really has a constant pattern when it comes to weather. One day it is hot, the neit day it is cold, the following day it rains, and wait a few more weeks and it will snow one day and melt by the next morning. If I remember correctly, the first day of school this year was different. It didn’t rain. I carried my umbrella just in case (actually, if I do that I can be certain it won't rain) because the past two years it has rained during the first day of classes.Weil, the monsoon season has honestly set in now'. (Many of you probably didn’t know we had monsoons in Texas. We really don’t, but we might as well have.) Last week was a perfect example. I didn’t see the sun once last week. It was hidden by the gray clouds which probably did move even though they appeared not to. If they did they just moved around in circles. It’s easy to tel! when the rainy season has started. People with curly hair suddenly have frizzy hair, and if it’s long it automatically goes into a bun or pony-tail. Those with straight hair have it a little easier although I wouldn’t know.Glothing styles are also indications of a change in weather. The choices are few. You can pull out the “high-waters,” the ones you shrunk in the dryer by accident; or you can wear your regular long pants and face the embarrassment of the lower 12 inches changing colors, (turning different shades of grey depending upon how many puddles you wade through and how many cars splash you); or, for the girls, you can go ahead and wear skirts with hose and plan for them to end up speckled. .Don’t expect the rain to stop during the fall either. It continues through the winter, the spring, the summer..; You will have many more opportunities to take the long route to class around the lakes and rivers, avoiding the deaths.
