He was thrown several feet from the car and was unconscious for about 20 minutes. J. Johnson was riding in the front seat with him and was bruised about the face and body. Herbert Smith, and William Schuler were riding in the rumble seat. Smith received a wrenched arm and Schuler hurt his hip. The youths were immediately taken to a local doctor.It was said that the steering wheel of the car locked just as Grey was turning the corner. The car crashed into the ditch across a small culvert and hit the post. It was almost demolished.The broken telegraph pole fell across the highway and blocked traffic for several hours. Cars wishing to pass had to drive around by the Andrews service station. The youths were on their way to the Nightingale dance hall.
