Robert MontaomreyAnrf JOre of the least appreciated personalities of moviedom is Robert Montgomery Long probably the finest light comedian on the screen • challenged, in the opinion of this reviewer, by Melvyn Douglas), he is now emerging as a first class director, having directed the last few films in which he has starred. This reviewer has yet so see him give a poor performance, and hiswork in this picture is no exception. He is a delight to watch goin^ through his paces. And Ann Blyth tops anything she has done on the screen under Montgomery’s shrewd direction. In addition, the film is graced by the presence of Jane Cowl, one of the American theater s greats, in her first film role. She plays Montgomery's mother. The story is that Montgomery, lawyer son of a lawyer mother, is having a fling a; movie acting and doing all right. An ex-captain during the war, he is called back intoservice to track down some liberated'’ German rova! jewels. One of them isjn the possession of debutante Ann Blyth. and the Army and FBI send Mon tome ry to sweep Ann off her feet, in order to flush out the jewel thief who gave it to her Instead. Montgomery is swept off his feet by the dramatizing Ann.Toward the end the picture slowsdown a bit, but this is more than compensated for by what goes before and by the excellent dialogue Just one sample, when Montgomery takes exception to a remark made by the FBI agent: ’You’ve got 32 teeth. How'd you like to try for none?”A low bow to Montgomery, Blyth and Cowl and all concerned in its production for a very entertainingfilm.'Chicken Every Sunday'A 20th Onturv-F picture produced by Wi Ham P*r!herg. directed ry George Seaton, written for the screen by George Seaton and Valentine Davies Now playing at the State TheaterJim ... ..........
