Murlan Haight, Ardys Deyloff, Homecoming King and Queen(By Ruth Renaud)Friday, the 19th of October, 1945. proved to be an exciting and eventful day for the students of Aurelia high school. After a mysterious morning and a busy noon hour, the assembly organized at 2:15 to watch the crowning of the King. After the crowning of the King the entire school participated in the Homecoming parade, which included a demonstration of yells and band selections on the main street intersection.That same afternoon after returning from town we had a short pep meeting in the bleachers and a band demonstration to help make the meeting a success in the absence of our speaker, Ervil Rapp.The Homecoming King of 1945,Murlan Haight, was chosen by a voteof the entire student body. Those who were runners up were: Bill Glawe. Charles Galvin, Sherm Nelson and Harold Larson. His election was to be a secret but it had been announced previous to the crowning. Murlan was officially crowned King at the pep meeting by Janice Akers, cheer leader.Ardys Deyloff reigned as Queen forIMS. She also jyasjibqaen by,.p.QBBfe vote oi the student body. The four cheer leaders and the drum majorettes gave up their positions as attendants which were then occupied by Joan Deyloff, JoAnn Will, Beverly Ohlson and Eveline Stanworth. ,The Queen’s coronation took place between the halves of the football game on Valor field. Queen Ardys was attired in a white formal and the traditional maroon robe. She was crowned by Duane Perry, studenl manager, after a processional across the field' to the strains of Pomp and Circumstance.”' Lynn Hansen and Denny Brechwald, first graders, chosen by the cheer leaders, served as Princess and Prince for the Homecoming ceremonies.In the evening the Bulldogs were defeated by a powerful Paullina team after a hard fought, thrill-packed game. Thus ended another grand Homecoming Day at Aurelia high school.r
