Valley Center Theater Opens With'Honeymoon'By LYNN TILTONValley Centre Theatre, a new dramatic group with a newly constructed theater at 60 N. 300 West, Provo, inaugurated the theater Thursday with the opening night production of a contemporary comedy, “Five on a Honeymoon”The theater utilizes thetheater - in - the * round concept and last night’s performance proved well adapted to that intimate form of presentation.Norm Thoreson of Orem, an experienced dramatist, portrays an Idaho potato farmer who married aCalifornia widow with three spoiled children. As Chris, the new father, he provesautocratic in the eyes of the children and the mother, which adds to the humor of the play.Pauline Hills plays the married mother. Connie, who has avoided showdowns with her children at all costs.Georgia Faux, as Grandma Spencer, was a delightful character actor, and possibly the most polished of the group.“Five on a Honeymon, which is being played for the first time in Utah by Valley Centre Theatre, is a comedy that nearly everyone will understand and can identify with. It is a play for the entire family.Director Jody Renstrom, wife of Keith Renstrom, producer, explained Valley Centre Theatre will be presenting a new production each month. The present comedy will play Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights each week until Nov. 8.The November production has not been announced but “Christmas Carol/’ the Dickins classic, is scheduled for December.The theater, which has yet to have a sign, was being constructed at the same time that rehersals for “Five on a Honeymoon” wfere held. Mr. Renstrom explained the seats were obtained from the LDS Church Office Building in Salt Uke City, and that “kinks in the building have yet to be ironed out. .He said the theater will hold about 200, grouped around the stage in such a manner that every seat in the house is a good seat.TTie Renstroms emphasize the goal of Valley. Centre Theatre is to provide an opportunity to perform to drama - oreinted persons of all ages. Various directors will be given the chance to direct productions at the theater, Mrs. Renstrom said.Auditions for future plays will begin every second Saturday of the month at 2 p.m. at the theater. No appointments are necessary,the Renstroms explained.Mrs. Renstrom said, We want to provide theater for the entire family, the type that will help people to forget their cares for a time and just enjoy the productions.”“Five on a Honeymoon” is such a production.Marion Hanks To Address 'Y' Devotional *Elder Marion D. Hanks, assistant to the Council of the Twelve of the LDS Church, will speak at the devotional assembly at Brigham Young University Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Marriott Center.Elder Hanks has been prominent in civic affairs, especially in the area of youth development. He served several years on the United States President’s Citizens Advisory Committee on Youth and has spoken to and been a consultant for youth conferences throughout the world.A seminary and institute teacher for many years, Elder Hanks has served in the leadership of Temple Square and spent several years in England in mission leadership. He was supervisor of missions in Southeast Asia for three years.Elder Hanks holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah and is a member of the Board of Trustees of BYU.
