place. It was at that time thatIt’s a fact that if we live long enough we’ll be saying farewell to lots of friends whose time in this life has ended. Only now, am I understanding why the letters from my Mom were always filled with the news of another friend’s demise. She tried to write a weekly letter to us while we lived so far away and in the valley. But, towards the end of their lives the letters always were filled with another funeral they had attended.Memories are intended to be closer to an uplifting than causing a sadness to our destiny. It was George Crane who gave us all a wonderful memory a while back before he departed this side of life. Lots of folks had attended a luncheon with the theme “Angels”. Tables were decorated* with angels and pictures and props were displayed around the meeting room. Beth Blome gave an excellent talk about angels, too. When Mr. Crane was to give the final prayer he first had this to say: “I truly believe in angels, because II New this Season II atLockhart fCoiiiiniiiihvI • ITlie;irierSunday Matinees Iat 2:00 PMmarried one!” (What a compliment to his wife, Alberta!)Perhaps angels were a part of my life in those early days but recollection has become imbedded too deeply and the memory just won’t surface. Of course, the Angel of the Lord was in my vocabulary and the relationship angels had with the birth and life of Christ. All the references to angels, that can be found in the Bible, are very familiar to me. But, they had not been involved in a personal relationship with me as I understood life. But, I readily recall those college days and learning about discipline in the school room and angels.During the sixties, in the valley, teachers could be compared to prime rib. The need for teachers was as keen as the need for food and sustenance each day. Many of the older students had just a few hours to complete before their degree plan became a reality. They attended night classes, Saturday classes, and some of them even attended during the week days. Most of them were interesting folks because they had already experienced dealing with children of their own. They always had plenty to offer the classroom of would-be teachers. One day it was one of those individuals who shared the memory of her own school days. Seems she had attended a Catholic School and wanted to share how the discipline tookshe mentioned “Guardian Angels”. According to her, the teaching personnel reminded the children daily that if they misbehaved in any way their Guardian Angel would be alerted to their actions. It was at that time the study of angels began in my own life. And yes, I certainly remem ber the day that Equal Half walked in saying, '‘My wife is an angel, half the time she’s in the air and the other halt she’s harping!”They became more personal to me as I read and learned about such references as Matthew 13:10, 'Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto to you,That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.”Archeology slide show set Oct. 21♦at FLNB roomA slide lecture on Central Texas Archeology will be presented on October 21, at 7:30 pm in the Community Room of the First Lockhart National Bank.
