Coffelt of Van Wert isone of the 144 members.Coffelt, son of Mr .and Mrs. Ora Coffelt, 336 Dickinson Avenue, has been at Michigan for four months as part of his army engineering training program and is scheduled to be there for two more montlis. Kv., when he was called for army service. |With 144 members, the Universe . of Michigan’s Band this year isboth one of the largest in its history and one of the top collegebands in the nation.Included in the 1943 organization are musicians from the Army and Navy bands, as well as civilian students studying at Ann Arbor. Directed by William D. Revelli, conductor of the University’s bands since 1935, the group this year is supplying music and color at football games, playing concerts hi Ann Arbor and in other cities. Incidentally, Mr. Revelli this year is president of the National University and College Band Conductors’ Association, a member of the American Bandmasters Association and an editor of the music magazine,“Etude.”In keeping with the spirit of the times, the band has eliminated alllong-distance out-of-town trips for the duration. One of (he traditions of the past which will have to be sacrificed for the duration is thetrips on which the band accompanied the team on all importantgames.Coffelt got his first band instruction from Leonard Wolf as a member of the Van Wert High School band.niversity
