c*HARD ROAD CELEBRATION DREW THOUSANDS 8ATURDAY.Had Parades, Addresses and Program of Good Entertainment.aiCrcetPiPRloetoirttteir«Si0The community celebration at St. Jacob last Saturday to mark the Completion of the hal'd road between there and Marine and the improvement of Douglas street in iSt. Jacob, proved the biggest event ever held tftere and drew an attendance estimated at approximately 6,000.The celebration began at 1 p. m. when a parade of over one hundred automobiles proceeded over the new hard road to Marine where they were joined by another hundred autos from Marine and returned in a triumphal procession to St. Jacob where an appropriate program was rendered. Addresses were delivered by C. M. Slaymaker of East St. Louis, district superintendent of the Illinois Division of Highways, L. A. Richardson of Marine, and others.In the evening a parade was hadwhjich was participated in by fl£ty-eight decorated automobiles and floats, a number of which were from, neighboring towns. The Highland Concert^ Band, Jamestown Cornet Band, Glen Carbon Girls’ Drum Corps and Beljevile Moose Drum Corps also topk part in the parade. Following the parade a platform dance wus held on the street for which Stocker’s orchestra furnished music.Stands and booths along the street offered various articles and Refreshments for sale and the mer: riment continued until (a late hour.
