Underhill, who was skeptical of mediums and other people who claimed to be able to communicate with the dead. Some believed the dead chose to communicate with certain people through knocks and taps — known as spirit rapping. The 17 -year - old Warner sat quietly in a pew during the Christmas Eve service, stating she could not control the spirits.
