S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, St. Louis-Alton area, leads in the number of Courtesy Motorboat Examinations to date this year. The Auxiliary’s boating safety campaign of checking pleasure craft has grown in leaps and bounds. It is recognized as a strong factor in the low percentage of boating accidents.Division III Members have made a total of 2,661 inspections including those passing as well as rejects. Division IX extending from northfrn Illinois east to Ohio is second with 2.099 inspections and Division IV centralized around Louisville, Kv., is third with 1,890 CMEs, reported Lt. Cmdr. A. R. CHRISTIANSENcent waters comes to close this weekend for LEWIS BCHS and his wife, RITH, 3624 Western Ave. The couple acquired their 25-ft cruiser a few months ago and are enjoying every second of their voyage. They anchor out at night whereever they happen to be. The farthest they have gone is through Winfield Locks and Dam.We met the Buhs at Pere Marquette Park Harbor Thursday. Aboard as guests were MR. and MRS. MARK FREIMAN. formerly of Alton now residing in Grafton. For 10 years the Buhs have; spent their vacations at Edge water Resort on Lake Taneyco-mo, near Forsythe, Mo. Instead, this year, the resort operators PETE and JEWEL SIMONS came here to spend time on Buh’s boat. Only one night, have the Buhs needed blankets sleeping aboard lt;1 their boat. tFound Anchor ILARRY KLINKE of Wood River I accomplished what few other boaters have been able to do. Two weeks ago when setting his anchor on Alton Lake at Portage lt;des Sioux, the line came off the t cleat and he watched it disappear f beneath the surface.
