Doc Severinsen Performs,And the Audience Loves ItA Re\ iew bv DOROTHY NORDYKEHappiness for some 2,500 Panhandle people Saturday night was being at the Amarillo Symphony concert at Amarillo Civic Center auditorium and hearmg the doctor — Severinsen, to be1 exact — as guest artist perform on his high-flving trumpetSt Peter himself - with his horn — wouldn't have had ears in the audience much more attentive From the first note of The Star Spangled Banner to the last note of the encore that was almost drowned in spontaneous applause, the second symphony concert of this Bicenten nial season was a joyous occasion Many a concert-goer who had suffered a few sad moments as a Texas-Oklahoma football-game-listener inthe afternoon when Oklahoma squeaked past Texas in the Cotton Bowl had a little of the sadness washed away by the lively music — such as in a Bridge Over Troubled Waters, one of the themes played by Severinsen and his Big D Sound ensemble along with the orchestra in Wehrle's ar-angements for AnotherRhapsody for Now ,, ......for Another Rhapsody tor Now Severinsen had had his troubled afternoon On the way into Amarillo from the airport about 1:30 p.m., a piece of Severinsen “s luggage waslost off the back of a station wagon After intermission, Severinsen tippedan imaginary Stetson to an honest woman. She had found the bag tilled with priceless to Severinsen musicand various arrangements - and it was back in the Doc's happvhandsLuckily the rhapsody opened with the tip-top spirit lifter, ‘ You Are the sunshine of My Life.
