EIGHTH HEARS OLD.Hannibal Lugg Celebrates His 80th Birthday—Many Friends Present-One of the Very 11 Earliest Pioneers.A notable event occurred last nighfc at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. IUtz, No. 1401 .Buchanan street, it being the celebration of the eightieth anniversary of the birth of Mr. Hannibal Lugg, father • of Mr*. Ritz, and who is one of the oldest and best known citizen? of Racine county. Relatives and old friends to the number of fifty gathered to pay their respects and to pass a pleasant few hours, partaking of refreshments and talking of the early history of the city and county and the times gone by. Mr. Lugg received everybody with a shake of the hand and welcomed them with that cheery and pleasant, manner, fur which he has always been noted and for a man of his advanced years lie is a very bright and active gentleman, He is one of the few surviving English emigrants who were pioneer settlers of the county. Mr, Lugg first saw vlic light of day at Parish of Ituanma-jor, Cornwall, England, on the 11th of October, 131.9. Here he received his education. In 1842 he located in Racine and got a position with Alar.son lriler as a builder, his trade being that of a carpenter. Afterward he purchased a farm in the town of Yorkviile and during the coldest winter of 1842 and '43 began to . improve his farm. He cultivated the farm and it was one of the best in the county. In 1874 he came to Racine and lias devoted most of his time to bis trade as carpencr and builder. During his residence here he has been honored with several responsible positions. In po'itifs he has always been a republican. So it is now over half a century since Mr. Lugg first set foot hi Racine county, then almost a wilderness and he has lived to see it develop into a well settled and highly improved region. He has borne his part well in its improvement and development and the gathering last evening is evidence that he enjoys the esteem and respect of a wide circle of friends. Mr. Lugg has been xwiee married und has a large family --r sons and daughters who arc among the leading people of the city and county. Let us hope that lie will live i to enjoy his 100th birthday.
