PAUL NESSE, JOHN RICHARDSON, MARC NESSE, AND SCOTT ANDERSONBv COLLEEN SMITHWThe Shags, who admit they are called the Shags only for lack of a better name, joined the long list of Austin bands about four months ago and have been going strong ever since.Led by Paul (Elm) Nesse, on the drums, are his brother Marc, who plays lead guitar, John Richardson on the rhythm guitar, and Scott Anderson, who plays the bass guitar. John and Marc do most of the singing for the band. The boys all attend Austin High School. The band got started after John and Marc had been playing together for a while and decided that they needed a drummer and another guitar, so the boys all got together and became the Shags.During their four months to-gehter, the Shags have played at a Teen Board Fashion Show, and at various parties as well as at coffeehouses. When asked about their plans for the future, the boys answered that they do this for funand they plan to have a good time. One unique fact about the Shags is that none of them have ever had formal lessons. The boys have a lot of fun improvising their own songs. They practice about tiwce a week at John’s home. The Shags think that the Paul Butterfield blues band and the Lovin’ Spoonfuls’ are the greatest, and they feel that the T.C. Atlantics are a Minnesota band headed for the top.INVITATION TO BANDSStrummers, pickers, a n d singers, Teen Scene is looking for you.All area bands are Invited to contact either the Teen Scene editor or any of t h e staff writers in Austin, Adams, Hayfield, Lyle, Blooming Prairie, or St. Ansgar.THE LOFTthe wordIN TEEN MEN'S FASHIONS
