FCC approves the sale of WLRO-AM for $ 195,000LORAIN - The sale of Lorain radio station WLRO-AM to the Veard Broadcasting Co. for $195,000 has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission.The owner of the broadcasting firm Is Jon R. Veard of Amherst, president of United Property Management, anapartment management firm. Veard, of Amherst, is listed as the sole stockholder of the station by the FCC, whichapproved the purchase Oct.4.The station is a 500-wattdaytime facility which operates on 1380 kilocycles from 6 a.m. to sunset, and was purchased from the Lorain Community Broadcasting Co. of Lorain, of which Lorain attorney Andrew Warho* la and Washington, D.C. attorney George Mobile were major stockhlders.NEITHER Veard nor Warho-la could be reached for comment.The radio station was put up for sale earlier this year and had reportedly been sold in Junepending FFC approval, although its former owners declined to confirm the report.The station, with studios and offices at 939 Broadway, went on the air in December 1969, replacing WWIZ-AM whose license had been revoked in 1967 by the FCC because it failed to properly notify the commission it had been sold the LorainIt recently changed Its format from popular music to a big band-type of format.WLRO is the second Lorain radio station to be sold this year. WZLE-FM was sold by the Lake Erie Broadcasting Co. to the Lorain Christian Broadcasting Co. in April for an estimated $800,000-$! million.
