Harlequins Preparing For20th Anniversary SeasonThe members of Sandusky’s little theater organization, The Harlequin’s Inc., have been hard at work since mid-summer preparing for the opening of their 20th anniversary season.For the past two decades this group has been presenting the best plays, old and new, of the English and American stage, and has given Sandusky practically its only opportunity to enjoy real-life theater.During that period there have been 55*^ three act productions produced for the general public. The settings for each play have been designed, constructed and painted by members of the group and some of these nave been outstanding.A total of 315 Sanduskians have participated in this activity, while the audiences have grown from an original group of about 150 to the present subscribing membership of nearly 1,200. Dr. Paul N. Squire is the only remaining charter member butthere are a number of well-known players who have been with the club since its first season, Among these are William Trost, MaybelleMeelfeld, Mary Louise Thierry and Norman Brattain.A number of .former members have left to become professionally successful. Joe Bates Smith has become a well-known writer of radio scripts. Karl Bates is a radio announcer and Lloyd Wen-inger is head of scenic design and construeti9n at the drama department of Carnegie Tech.Many Sanduskians will remember the first Harlequin performance of Milne’s “Mr, Pim Passes By,” which was given in the old Calvary parish house. For many years, Sidley memorial hall served as the headquarters for the group.Finally the old coach house of the Business Women’s club was obtained as a studio, and now serves as rehearsal hall, workshop and meeting place, while the plays are staged at the senior high school auditorium.Having survived the depression and having remained active with great difficulty throughout thewar years, the little theater promoters are anticipating smooth sailing for many years to comeand are still looking forward to the day when a full season of plays can be produced in a theater of their own.(lt;asivsThis year four plays are to be given instead of the customary three, and the first of these will be Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit” to be presented on Monday and Tuesday nights, Oct. 14 and 15, at 8:30.LIST SUNDAY SERVICESThe World Communion Services will observed by the members and friends of Trinity Methodist Church at the worship services Sunday morning. The minister will give the Communion meditation *on the theme. “The Eternal Christ”. Rev. Louis Quade will be assisted in the chancel by the Rev. Clarence Riggs of Lakeside; the Rev. Frank Argelander of Oberlin and Earl McGrevy. The special offering for “The Fellowship pi Suffering” which is for the overseas relief is sponsored by the churches of America.MAN DIES UNDER CRANECLEVELAND, Oct. 5 lt;VP5_Otto F.
