UNIVERSITY EXTENSION.First Lecture of the Course -Prof. Starr Speaks of the Northwestern Tribes of North America.The first lecture of the first divisionof the University Extension course lectures took place last evening, October i, at the Stout auditorium. A goodly audience was present, uotwitb standing the many other attractionsoffered throughout the city.The course, as announced, is upon the subject of “Anthropology,“ and j given by i’rof. Starr, assistant prnfen sor of anthropology in the University of Chicago.The course is divided into six lectures, namely: 1. Tribes of theI northwest coast. 2. Tribes of theI northwest ecaet (continued.) 3.I Mound builders. 4. Pueblos and cliff dwellers. 5. Aztecs and Mayas. •.I Native races of North America.The speaker was introduced by Mr. Richards in a few well chosen words and proceeded immediately to his task.Prof. Starr made himself acquainted with his audience by announcing himself a former Iowan, having resided in this state for four years and during those four years having made his first study in anthroplogy of the Tama Indian’, known as the most aboriginal in the territory of the United ‘States.
