TEEN SCENEBandSaid Success XM,The bands which parUcipated were: The Living End, TheTorchmen, The Laser Beams, The Just Ones, The Confedera-By RICK GLAUBOne of the many attractions at the recent Western Idaho Fair that drew many spectators daily was the Band Battle. The battle ran every day o! the fair and more than 15 bands competed for $100 and a chance for a recording contract.Probably the most commendable parts of the band battle were the behind the scenes workers. Putting on the band battle turned out to be a monstrous feat arid was handled well by Del Chapman and the rest of the KYM£fDJ's.Another person who had a lot to do with the success of the battle was sound man Gary tfeeth. The equipment for the battle was supplied by Keeth’s shop in Boise. Keeping all the bands sounding well was ano. ther major job which was hand-led well. The equipment stood up very well In the hot sun and torturous playing conditions with only a few difficulties.The bands were judged on five categories: Versatility, appearance, showmanship, sound and stage presence. Each category counted a possible 20 points.tion, The Vogues, TheTwigz,The Keeys, The Malteks, The Tijuana Echoes, The Lost, The Merry Marvel Marching Band, The British Walkers, The Bo-roques, The Infinate Result and The Wandering Kind.Guest appearances were made by the Bards and one of Boise’s best groups: Buster Brown.Alter the seven days of battle at the fair, a three way tie for first place was arrived at and finals were held at Boise College. Judging was handled by the Golden Z’s. The final finishers of the battle were:First Place —The BoroquesSecond Place—The Wandering KindThird Place - Merry Marvel Marching Band.The Boroques received $100 in cash and can now record a master (ape at Jerden studios In Washington. II the master tape is good they have a chance for a recording contract.The band battle was a success. I really doubt if the KYME DJs would want to do it all over again right away, though.Station Wagon Reported StolenNAMPA Martin Bel], 12315th Ave. N., reported to Nampa police shortly after midnight today the theft of a German Ford station wagon. The men were trapped Friday.
