Osmond Brothers, A Family On The GoHOLLYWOOD - The OsmondBrothers, who travel nine months out of the year, really don’tmiss their home or their familv.* V“Our whole family travels together,” s a i d 18-year-old Wayne Osmond. “Home is where you make it. We’n* really always together. I’m thankful and happy to be in this career as a family.In addition to Wayne, there are Alan, 20, Merrill, 16, Jay, 14, Donnie. II, Marie, 9, and Jimmy, 5, who, together with Mom and Dad. make up the traveling family. Tommy, 22, is going to college and Virie Is married.The singing group consists of Alan, Wayne. Merrill, Jay, Donnie, Jimmy and, sometimes, Marie. The Osmonds got theirstart as a foursome with AndyWilliams about five years ago.They continue to appear with him on The Andy Williams Show,” Saturdays over NBC.“We all help each other,” said Alan “Merrill seems to be the best dancer. A couple of us have problems with this, and he works with us till we get it. Merrill also started the banjo and taught us a few chords. I taught Wayne guitar and I taught Merrill the bass, but he has surpassed me.”The Osmonds have 26 instruments between them.“Jay is self-taught on the drums.” Alan continued. “He watched every drummer andsuddenly he was doing it, A lot of drummers ask him for lessons now. All he wants forChristmas is another set. He has two sets now'. He woke me up this morning playing the drums.”“He’s drum crazy,” Wayneadded. Incidentally. Alan won’t*•tell you this about himself, but he helps us with our phrasing and acting. He’s good at performing, comedy sketches, andimpersonations.”“Wayne’s our saxophone expert,” Alan revealed. “When Jimmy was born and gave his first cry, mother said, I’ve got another tenor!” He’s our soul singer. Donnie is more or less our lady killer.”Their mother makes sure their education is not neglected.“She’s very education-minded,” said Alan. “She started to teach us with tapes.Jimmy learned his multiplication tables that way.”When the youngsters are home, they like to work with' recording equipment in the studio which they built. Their home sits on an acre of land with many fruit trees. They all enjoy photography and develop their own pictures in a dark room they built. They also have two dogs — Lady, a Belgian police dog, and Fuji, an Akita.“Jay likes dogs,” said Alan. “If you can’t find him, he’s usually In the dog house.”The Osmonds come from Utah where they lived on a farm.“We each had our own dogs,” said Alan. “We also had milk cows, sheep, chickens, ducks, billy goats and rabbits. Those were fun days.”
