His best decision was to depict the Sioux tribe with complete respect: all of the actors are Native Americans, and they speak in the La-kota language.Together with cinematographer Dean Semler, Costner also paints some great pictures ofthe western prairie. And the fact that this three-hour film almost seems too short is a tribute to the fledgling director’s confident guiding hand.
