SUm LIGHTNING STROKE .WALKED HOMEIS ANOTHER AJAXGEORGE DUDLEY, CONNECTED UP WITH 66,000 VOLTS CURRENT, LIVES TO EAT THANKSGIVING DINNER AT HOME.George Dudley, a laborer employed on the new power house of tho Clark syndicate at Alton, received and sustained what amounted to a lightning stroke and came through the experience with comparatively little harm. He regained conseioun-ness at St. Joseph's hospital where he was taken to have his burns dressed and immediately after the surgeon had finished his work, the victim rose and insisted upon going to his homo on foot to eat Thanksgiving dinner.Dudley was working on the roof of the new power house when he became connected up with tho high tension lines carrying 66,000 vo ts of the Keokuk current. The wires came into the building close to where he was working. A huge sign there warned of danger. While he wasn't watching closely what he was doing, Dudley picked up a piece of sheet steel and laid this over the high tension line and he was knocked Insensible, a fellow workman, A. A. May, saw the plight of Dudley and switched off the current. It was not believed that he could live, and great was the surprise of everyone when he rai led from the shock and was apparently little harmed.Electrical men say that it Is a very rare occurrence for a man to withstand such a shock as Dudley received and the fortunate outcome of his injury was the marvel of all who saw or heard of It.
