you see,my American liootn-de-ay mg is more like a rest than work in comparison.”(jl'EEX I.Ul'ISK FEIE.Description of Pretty Tableaux for aFashionable Entertainment.Tb° preparations for the forthcoming QueenLouise fete are nearly all completed and the programmes and pretty cards ol invitation,with historical description, have been printed and will goon be circulated, fiances an i choruses are being rehearse i and the costumes for the tableaux and historical scents have till been designed and are now beingmade.The curtain will rise on a brilliant picture. On a pedestal in the centre and surrounded by symbolical devices will stand History,** a Grecian figure In beautiful classic costume, impersonated by a Baltimore lady. Surrounding her will be several groups, including “The Fates,” Youth and Old Age,*’ and twelve Grecian maidens assuming typical characters. Among those who will take part in this scene are Mbs Susie Keith and Miss Moran.After a prologue delivered by “History/' descriptive of the tableaux and Incidents to follow, the curtain will lull, to be raised again on the reproduction of the picture of Princess Louise and her little sister,the royal children to he represented by little Misses Canta Archibald and Lisie Gittings. The mother of the Poet Goethe also appears in this group, represented by Miss Elizabeth Clark. The second picture w ill represent the Queen as a youthful bride, impersonated by Nelde Porter, with Mrs. Powhatan Clark a* the famous friend of the Queen, Countess Voss, and Mrs. Minton Warren as maid of honor. In the background will be attendants and children.“The Queen Among Her People” is the title of the third picture. The royal lady, edill impersonated by Miss Porter, will be shown in an bumble peasant's cottage, conversing with the rustics and attracting the children to her. ller attendaut will be impersonated by Miss Louise Kanstead.The celebrated Cologne painting by Richter will be reproduced for the fourth tableau. This represents the Queen descending the stairs, with her gauzy scarf floating gracefully over her neck. In this Miss Louise Morris will enact the Queen. The costume® and poses will be exact reproductions of the pictures, and the im}ersonators have been chosen to carry out as nearly as nossib.e the personal appearance of the originals. Spoken scenes from the life of Louise, who wasthe mother of old Kaiser Wilhelm and the great-grandmother of the present Emperor of Germany, will follow the tableaux. Thefirst will show the Queen in the park of hercastle, e*Djoying the simple pleasures and homage ot her people. In this will be introduced the chorus of the peasants, tbo dance of the reapers and the kindergarten songs and games.The splendor of the Prussian court will form the second scone, where the stately minuet, gavotte *and garabande will be danced by gorgeously attired court ladies and gentlemen. Miss Eila Kerr will lead the peasants* dance and Miss Lota Robinson the ravotte.The fete, whose proceeds w ill be devoted to *he support ot tne Light Street Free Kindergarten, was originated by Mrs. Henry Wood, wile of Professor Wood, of the Johns Hopkins University, and a warm advocate of kiutergarten enterprises in Baltimore. Mrs. Wood has written a sketch of incidents in the ife ol Queen Louise, printed on the souvenir invitation and opening with a quotation of a saying of the Queen, “Our children arc our treasures.” Other ladles who are actively interested in the fete are Miss Adams, Mrs. George lieu ling, Mrs. Basil Gildersieeve, Mrs. Grithn, Mrs. Tagart Steele, Mrs. Minton Warren, Mrs. Tompkins, Mrs. George Gibson, Mrs. Sadtler, Miss Reinhart, Miss Bur-oap, Mrs. Lloyd Jackson, Miss Mcllvaine, Miss Elliott, Mrs. Thomas G. Stowe and Mrs. lgiehart. The fete will be held at Harris’s Academy of Music on the eveulug of December 19. After t he performance those taking part will be entertained by the lady man-iflvrs of the fete in the Concert Hall, where i dance will take place. This will be given independently of the funds raised for thekindergarten.
