shop, not drop(From page 3A)make it through Wal-Mart was akin to running an obstacle course, and I found myself wanting to run home and take cover. In the end I didn’t buy anything for Christmas. Which is not to say I didn’t spend any money. I did, after all, leave the house. But I know that I must start my shopping before long. I keeptelling myself that I haven’t officially started shopping yet because my girls haven’t made out a list yet. Then reality hits me and I realize that there is no list because they don’t want anything-they want everything. Kids. Christmas. Makes sense to me.Yesterday officially started the shopping season. I had to work, though, so it made for a good excuse for me not to go.This is Saturday, though, my day off. That means I have no excuse to get started. I’ll roam the aisles, pick and choose, duck and dodge, and try to make up my mind-which is a tall enough order all by itself.Every year at this time I always say that I’ll start earlier the next year. I’ll have all my Christmas shopping done ahead of schedule.Of course it never happens quite that way. In truth there is some measure of excitement to being out during the Christmas season to shop.Either that, or I’m just a glutton for punishment. On the bright side, if the holiday frenzy gets to be too much for me to handle, I can always duck into the movie theater and see the Grinch again. Taking cue from the one who rhymes time and again, a little piece of advice to you my dear friend. If your out and about and need something to do, the movie is full of delightful Whos, stop and you'll find a delightful treat, and if the shopping’s too hectic then maybe we’ll meet.See you next week.(Gail Freeman is a Whitley Cowity resident whose columns appear in the Times-Tribune.)
