guished mezzo-soprano of the Metropolitan Opera will be singing at the Mission Playhouse in San Gabriel December 6. Although her specialty is opera and art songs, she is known as a boogie-woogie-mad songstress and will sing “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” any chance she gets. Once a Star of the Paris Opera-Comique, she made her American concert debut with Arturo Toscanini and the New York Philharmonic Symphony Society in October, 1942; and in six short seasons has brought tens of thousands of concert-goers to their feet with the brilliance of her art and voice.Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo:The Ballet Russe de MonteCarlo returns to Los Angeles and the Philharmonic Auditorium December 10 for a gala preholiday season. Between December 10 and 18 they will present eight evening performancesand two matinees which will include a new ballet, created by Ruthanna Boris which was inspired by a perfume and iscalled Quelques Fleurs. Other ballets to be presented include: Les Sylphides, Beau Danube, Nutmracker, Cirque de Deux, Mozartiana, Pas de Deux, Rodeo, Madronos, Swan Lake, Gaite Parisienne, Concerto Barocco, Night Shadow, Scheherazade,Ballet Imperial, Blue Bird, Ray-monda, and Coppelia.
