She has cleared about $2,-200 for her owner, and but for the Imprudent pool with a local tug the net earnings would have aggregated considerable more. Capt. Cox has established an enviable reputation among vessel men for being an attentive, expert and accommodating tug man who is ever ready and willing to attend all calls for his services; and Thk Advocate hopes to see him placed in command of theSmoke or some other equally good boat next season.The officers of the canal company have notified the stqte authorities that the canal is now completed in accordance with the state law, and is ready for acceptance after which the company will take the improvement out of the hands of Mr. Green, the contractor. An average depth of thirteen feet of water has been secured, ami already the largest vessels plying between Green Bay ports and Chicago have passed through without difficulty or mishap. During the month of October 251 vessels passed through, aggregating 6*5,995 tons, on which the tolls amounted to 53,354; and to the 1st of November, 1,290 vessels, aggregating 345,216 tons have passed through the canal. The tolls on this number amounted to 317,260.80. It is expected Capt. Casgraiu will continue in charge of the canal.
