By JIM TERRYof the Daily Telegraph staffthe Bluefieid Holiday Festival of Lights -set to begin Thanksgiving Day - has received nearly $2,700 in contributions, plus some donations of supplies for the event, members said Thursday.The committee on Thursday conducted its final meeting before the festival begins 3§j||:; \ £The session was held at the Bluefieid Youth Center.Member Dallas Fowler, the city’s assistant street superintendent, said workersvirtually have completed fabrication of large “Happy Holidays” signs to be installed at various points in the city.The signs, about 36 inches in overallheight (with 18.5 inch legs) are about 15 feet long, Fowler said. They were:Royal Jewelry, $50; Four Sixty Plaza, $25; Grubb Photo, $25; Americo Mariotti, 3106 Cumberland Road, $20; SouthernOffice Supply, $50; Bluefieid Beautification Commission, $1,000; Moose Club,$1,000; Mrs. D.E. Cruise, 242 Ridgecrest Road, $100; Citizens Builders Supply Co., $300, and Frances Davidson, 220 Oakdell Ave., $100, for a total of $2,695.Cromer said State Electric donated various supplies and Stateside contributed some rolls of ribbon.Donations are tax-deductible.Other areas to be decorated for the project include the old Ridge Runner train at the park, a tree near the Food Lion store on Cumberland Road, and railing and a flagpole at the East River Mountain Overlook.Committee member Beth Andrick, Main Street Bluefield's executive director who is in charge of special events for the holidav oroiect, has said most downtown merchants will decorate their store windows with white lights as part of the festivities, and the Bluefieid Garden Council will be doing its luminaries pro-The tree at Chicory Square also will bedecorated with different color lights.The festival is planned tor the Thanksgiving weekend and continuing throughthe first of the year.Committee members believe the project, if properly planned, supervised and funded, has a potential similar to the annual Festival of Lights at Oglebay Park in Wheeling The festival attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists and visitors each year.Officials in charge of that festival say they expect about a million visitors this year. .
