lion. W. A. Clark, the defeated candidate of the Democracy for delegate, was in the city yesterday on his way East and several of his political friends in Helena took advantage of the occasion to entertain the gentleman at dinner. The repast was spread at the Cosmopolitan hotel yesterday alternoon and is said to have been a counterpart of the banquet lately given at Delmonico's to ex-Governor Hauser by Col. Brice. However, the occasion yesterday was devoid of rainbows, except the prismatic colors that glinted from the libations of sparkling champagne, pledged in bumpers of purest crystal. The company sat down at 8 o’clock and left table about 2 this morning, the intervening time being enlivened by after dinner speeches and numerous toasts. Among those present were:Messrs. A. J. Davidson, who presided, Col. C. A. Broadwater, Col. J. A. Johnson, Dan Floweree, Maj. Martin Maginnis, Col. C. D. Curtis, Col. James Sullivan, Thos. Cruse, S. C. Ashby, J. K. Clark, Hon. J. K. Toole, Col. W. B. Hundley, W. G. Preuitt, Alderman Marcus Lissner, Hugh Mc-yuaid, County Attorney William Wallace, Jr., and N. J. McConnell. The occasion was a pleasant one and heartily enjoyed by all present, the zest, however, being a little less intense than if our delegate-elect’s name was spelled with one syllable instead of two.
