By Dian McClurgThe ChronicleVADER — Guy Chastain became mayor of Vader Wednesday evening, after this year's election results were certified.Most newly elected officials will take their positions at the first of next year, but Chastain takes over for Andy Wilson, who was appointed mayor when Wanda Ward left in May.“I will try to do the very best job in my power to represent the city of Vader in the best lightthat a guy can put on it, Chastain said, taking his seat with the councilors.“We've got a lot of good people here capable of doing good things, he said. Sometimes I feel like Vader is at a point of diminishing returns, but the way I see it. we've only got one way to go. and that's up. He was a little rusty with protocol — he last served Vader as mayor in the l%()s — but the councilors and present members of the public were relaxedwith him.Just before councilors approved the vouchers and adjourned. Chastain held an informal public comment period and asked everyone in the audienceVif they had questions for him.He reassured citi/.ens that while he is mayor, he intends towhave more communication between city departments.
